First month of Home school!

It’s crazy how fast this year is passing, it’s already been a month of school! As most of you know I’m getting homeschooled this year, or until school goes to online. Right now we’re not getting homeschooled, because we’re scared we’d catch Covid if we went to school. We’re getting homeschooled, because we feel the conditions of learning at home are better than at school. A lot of people don’t mind masks, don’t mind all of the restrictions and don’t mind all of the changes at school.

Me, personally I feel like I would not be one of those people, going into a store for an hour with a mask on isn’t comfortable for me, I couldn’t imagine spending 7 hours in one. I am also a very anxious person, so being at school knowing there are a lot of germs going around and knowing I can’t take my mask off when I need to would just get to me overtime. Also knowing that I can’t go anywhere with a cold would stress me out as well, being in a school with 1000 people would mean a lot of germs and it’s highly unlikely that I wouldn’t catch something.

When I started homeschool I wasn’t the happiest of people, I was looking at all of the negative instead of the positive. I was looking at everything I was missing instead of everything I was gaining. Now I am very thankful that my family is in a position that we can do this. Both of my parents work from home which makes it a lot easier. Before I started homeschool I didn’t realize how much extra time you have at school. With recess and lunch and all of the subjects that you don’t technically need in grade 9 you don’t have that much work.

With homeschool I have about 5 subjects, Math, English, French, Science and Citizenship. I do math everyday for about an hour, then I’ll alternate the other subjects so that I do them about 3 times a week. One of my favourite things about homeschool is that I can choose when I do work, if I have just finished math and English then I can take about half an hour break before I start my next subject. Homeschool is also nice because I get to spend more time with my family, with school and dance I would hardly be able to see them, I dance 4 times a week for long periods of time, so I wouldn’t get much time with them.

The last thing Ive realized from homeschool is how much I need people. I don’t get to see 1000 people a day, so I try and meet up with my closest family and friends. Luckily for us my cousins are also getting homeschooled, we are very close, so that is nice. Every weekend I also try and plan something with my closest friends. Then we also meet up with all of our family friends. I am so thankful for the opportunity I am given and very excited to see what this year brings!
